Luke Horne, Holy Trinity, captures CYO Cadet Boys 800 Meter Title

Luke Horne and Andrew Zabudsky from St. Pius X needed the review of the photo finish to determine the winner of the 800 meter race with 20 hundredths of a second separating their finish in the race!  Horne has had some good successes with the distance races over the years. sistersblog# cyocamphoward#

CYO 1500 Meter Paige Grant Wins Big

Paige and Molly Grant are true identical twins.  I have watched the girls grow up in CYO sports.  I was a teacher at St. Mary of the Valley (now Valley Catholic) when their mother was a student there.  I know the family well and they are great people.   The girls have been fun to watch through the years as they have been scrappers in basketball and competitors in track and field.  They both have the heart of a winner.  It touched my heart as Paige stepped up on the winners platform for the first time and collected her championship medal.  Good job, Paige!

CYO Cub Boys 1500 Vlad Stancescu from Our Lady of the Lake

Twins from Our Lady of the Lake, Vlad and Andrei Stancescu were a treat to watch as they came in one and two in both the 3000 (Saturday) and the 1500 (Sunday afternoon).  The boys clearly love one another and my suspicion is that they push one another in practice.  Andrei shaved 3 seconds off his best time while Vlad improved by under 1 second. sistersblog# cyocamphoward#

CYO Roadrunners “The Jumpers”

CYO Roadrunner Girls show their style and form as they learn to long jump in the program.  The girls made a spectacular showing in spite of the rain and wind and I suspect they had a lot of fun too!

Parkes Kendrick, CYO Star, University of Portland Valedictorian

MAY 12, 2017 PORTLAND,  OR

IMG_2695

Parkes Kendrick ran for the Madeleine CYO Club while in grade school and left her mark on CYO with her amazing racing skills!  Anyone who is a regular at CYO Track and Field will know the name, Parkes Kendrick.

I was so happy to see Parkes was the University of Portland Valedictorian chosen to talk at commencement last week when I attended the exercises to support our graduating Sisters and to watch Sr. Charlene receive her award.

I read up on what Parkes had done since her days at CYO and found in high school she was in contention for two state championships the same season on the same day! Similarly, at the University of Portland, she was a finalist for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship and had to give up her participation in the NCAA Cross Country Championships because the two conflicted!

Parkes is an extraordinary young woman who leaves an impression.  It is obvious, reading about her in cyber space that she has the potential to leave a big mark in our world. Congratulation, Parkes, on all you have achieved these past twenty some years! We are very proud of you. #sistersblogs  #cyocamphoward
