The men’s shot put has been present on the Olympic athletics program since 1896 (one of two throws events at the first Olympics, alongside the discus). The women’s event was added to the program at the 1948 Olympics just over fifty years later.
One of the historical issues with field events is that it is difficult to be there to watch for a lot of people and the races always get the glitter because they take place right in front of the grandstands. But, having been a field event person myself, it is important for me to let the kids in the field events know that their contributions to team points are very valuable and without you, it makes the difference in team championships!!!
Congratulations, Abigail for your 27′ 9″ PUT on Sunday afternoon, May 17th at the CYO Meet of Champions that garnered St. Ignatius 10 points for their team score, and a CHAMPIONSHIP for you! Well done!
