CYO Roadrunner London Wishman Racked Up 10 Points for St. Matthew in the 400

A straight forward race with a tough field of competitors resulting in a two second advantage for Wisher and gold for St. Matthew!  The 400 is a challenging race that used to be called a “run” now called a “dash” because the participants go hard and fast all the way around!

Ian Bello thrilled the crowd with his record setting performance at the CYO Meet of Champions at Jesuit High School May 20 & 21.  His new record time of 2:34.52 was 7 seconds faster than his best competitive time this year.

CYO 1500 Meter Paige Grant Wins Big

Paige and Molly Grant are true identical twins.  I have watched the girls grow up in CYO sports.  I was a teacher at St. Mary of the Valley (now Valley Catholic) when their mother was a student there.  I know the family well and they are great people.   The girls have been fun to watch through the years as they have been scrappers in basketball and competitors in track and field.  They both have the heart of a winner.  It touched my heart as Paige stepped up on the winners platform for the first time and collected her championship medal.  Good job, Paige!

CYO Cub Boys 1500 Vlad Stancescu from Our Lady of the Lake

Twins from Our Lady of the Lake, Vlad and Andrei Stancescu were a treat to watch as they came in one and two in both the 3000 (Saturday) and the 1500 (Sunday afternoon).  The boys clearly love one another and my suspicion is that they push one another in practice.  Andrei shaved 3 seconds off his best time while Vlad improved by under 1 second. sistersblog# cyocamphoward#

CYO Cub Girls 1500 Meter Run Natalie Jack from Holy Trinity

IMG_3498Natalie JackNatalie Jack came into the Meet of Champions with a time of 5:14.71, the best time posted for Cub Girls in preseason.  She shaved 4 seconds off her time to hold off Taegan Eatmon-Kelsey who improved her time by 37 seconds coming in just 1 second behind Jack.  A great race by the Cub Girls!  sistersblog# cyocamphoward#

Aiden Donis had a scorching personal performance at the CYO Meet of Champions burning 23 seconds off his best time this year of 5:44.64.  The overcast weather with mild temperatures throughout the day was a perfect day for runners.  Congratulations to all of the Roadrunner Boys for their very good efforts.

Juliana Peters absolutely exploded into CYO sports last year as a third grader.  She set a new record in the first championship race she ran (800) in the Roadrunner Regional at Valley Catholic.  We were sort of excited to see what she would do as a fourth grader and she did it again!  Juliana has had two fantastic years in CYO Track & Field.  She will be fun to watch.  Note her time against the Cub boys.  She would have placed second and might have lost the race by 3 seconds. sistersblog# cyocamphoward#

CYO Cadet Boys 3000 Meter Run

John Schuler posted a season best competition time of 10:08.84.  When it came time for the championships, however, he was able to shave more than 30 seconds off his time to beat second place by 5 seconds.  Four competitors were seeded ahead of John making the championship a strategic challenge.

CYO Cadet Girls 3000 Meters Agony & Ecstacy

Eva McIlraith from St. Pius X claimed the 2017 Cadet girls championship for the 3000 Meter Run yesterday with a time of 11:05.15 dropping nearly 20 seconds off her seed time of 11:24.33, clearly a fantastic personal best in competition this year.

Olivia Silenzi from Valley Catholic was seeded first with a time of 11:17.57 from her pre-season competition.  With 200 yards left in the race, Silenzi fell out of first place, buckled up and began getting violently sick.  With inner fortitude, she powered on, obviously not well, and crossed the finish line in sixth place.  A remarkable finish for sure.

Other finishers in order included: (2nd) Olivia Seits & (3) Corinna Hatfield both from St. Anthony, (4) Alexandria Nagy from St. PIus X, (5) Fiona Lenth from St. John Fisher, (7) Kaitlin Gripekoven from St. Thomas More and (8) Georgia Hicken from Valley Catholic.
