Mary’s Lodge at Camp Howard Update

The building continues to take shape as one would expect.  The images in my mind and dreams of the summer continue to inspire me.  This great weather invites new drone footage!

Below: Three quarter view from the new access road gives a wonderful perspective of the building. The large rocks will be removed and used in the Sandy River for stream bed restoration.  The area will be cleaned and dressed then planted to lawn.  It will serve as a welcoming green space and a fire defense area.

Below: Insulation is being applied in the dining room.  Looking good!  I really liked the look of the framing in the dining hall.  The pattern was beautiful!

Building Rain or Shine

Not a surprise, seems like more rain than shine these days at Camp Howard as contractors work through the drizzle to finish up the foundation of the new “Mary’s Lodge at Camp Howard!”

When the project is finished, I plan to perch myself in front of the windows overlooking the Bull Run and Mt. Hood and drink coffee all afternoon with friends!  Call me to get your name on the list of friends who would like to join me! 503-231-9484

Below: The plastic “tent” is actually scaffolding surrounded by plastic to keep rain off of the fireplace that is being installed.  Pretty exciting to see the work being done!

Inside the “tent” small glimpse of the inside of the fireplace and firewall being installed.

Framers lay out the area where walls will spring up.  In no time they will have the walls up and a cover over the building so they can work inside.  That is my prediction!  We will see how long it takes!IMG_7811

Couldn’t Help it Had to Post it!

BEST LAWYER / INSURANCE STORY OF THE YEAR, DECADE,

This actually took place in Charlotte, North Carolina.
A lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars; then insured them against, among other things, fire.

Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars, the lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company.  In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost ‘in a series of small fires.’

The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason, that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion.

The lawyer sued and WON!  (Stay with me.)

Delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. The judge stated nevertheless, that the lawyer held a policy from the company, in which it had warranted that the  cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them  against fire, without defining what is considered to be unacceptable ‘fire’ and was obligated to pay the claim.
Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the lawyer for his loss of the cigars that perished in the ‘fires’.

NOW FOR THE BEST PART…
After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!!

With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine.
This true story won First Place in last year’s Criminal Lawyers Awards contest.
