St. John the Apostle Athlete Excels at Turbo Javelin

Joe Nizich, youngest of the Nizich clan, has been gifted along with his siblings with wonderful athletic talents.  Joe came into the Meet of Champions this year as an “underdog cadet” which means he was in his first year of cadet rank. Next year he will be on the older side of the cadet participants which is an advantage.  That did not stop him from outdoing the competition this year however and he won the turbo javelin with a toss of 170’1″.

Do you think he can break the record set by Sean Hamel of Franciscan Montessori Earth School of 189’8″?  We will see.  I think he can!

CHAMPION: Joe Nizich (St. John the Apostel) 170’1″

Ava David Overpowers Competition in CYO Cadet Girls Shot Put Championship

Ava David came into the CYO Championship events with a seeded put of 35’8″.  She won the event with a put of 37’9.5 inches which I have to believe is a personal best for her.  If so, the championship event was the best time to have a personal best.  Paige Cooper was on Ava’s heels all the way with a similar story.  Both girls are to be commended on their distances.  Anna Adamko set a 40″ record in 2007 which would be fun to see broken!

Abigail Sheets From St. Ignatius wins the Cub Girls SHOT PUT

The men’s shot put has been present on the Olympic athletics program since 1896 (one of two throws events at the first Olympics, alongside the discus). The women’s event was added to the program at the 1948 Olympics just over fifty years later.

One of the historical issues with field events is that it is difficult to be there to watch for a lot of people and the races always get the glitter because they take place right in front of the grandstands.  But, having been a field event person myself, it is important for me to let the kids in the field events know that their contributions to team points are very valuable and without you, it makes the difference in team championships!!!

Congratulations, Abigail for your 27′ 9″ PUT on Sunday afternoon, May 17th at the CYO Meet of Champions that garnered St. Ignatius 10 points for their team score, and a CHAMPIONSHIP for you!  Well done!

Champion: Abigail Sheets (St. Ignatius 27′ 9″

2nd: Josie Napoli (St. John Fisher) 27’8.5″ (Wow 1/2 inch separated first from second)

3rd: Abigail Pressnell (Our Lady of the Lake) 26’5″

4th: Eliza DiGiulio (St. Clare) 25’11”

5th: Isabella McVicker (Our Lady of the Lake) 24’8″

6th: Samantha Ford (St. PIus X) 24’7.5″

7th: Alicia Andrew (Our Lady of Lourdes) 24’6″

Dear Readers

Thank you for following my BLOG.  You can expect to see Track and Field postings until I finish each of the individual events.  I am stretching it out this year to keep you coming back!

My life as a religious is very interesting because by the nature of being a religious, I am called upon to do many things and that is what I signed up for!

I will be going to Ontario, OREGON in June to teach a week of Religious Education classes to kids in the parish there.  I will take you with me and I hope you will look forward to the trip.  I grew up in a rural area of North Central Oregon and went to a Catholic mission church.  I consider myself a CCD vocation.  In those days Religious Education was known as CCD or Confraternity of Christian Doctrine!  Thats why it was CCD!!!  I hope you will join me on this trip June 15 though 19.

I have also served on our community leadership council these past 5 years.  My term comes to an end at the end of June when we install the new leadership team.  I will share that with you as well.

I appreciate it when you comment on my BLOGS because it lets me know you are there.  Don’t be afraid to say something! 🙂
