CYO 5th Grade Boys City Championship Game Proves Remarkable

Holy Trinity and St. Ignatius made their way to the Championship game which proved to be a contest that will be long remembered.  Both teams showed a variety of talent but the Holy Trinity squad, on the verge of a growth spurt, showed remarkable shooting skills from the outside and agility and precision on drives.  They owned the boards and came away with unbelievable rebounds.

A David and Goliath story where David wins again with a score of 37 – 26.

CYO Fifth Grade Girls Game Tournament Barn Burner

St. John Fisher and Our Lady of the Lake fifth grade girls provided ample excitement for the spectators this year as their game went into overtime with a score of 34 – 34 at the end of play.

With 2.6 seconds remaining on the clock, St. John Fisher was fouled and needed the two points to tie the game!  The shooter scored the two shots and put the game into overtime!

Cool shooting free throws as the game came to a conclusion sealed the deal for St. John Fisher as they grabbed their third consecutive CYO title!

The Fourth grade game of the CYO City Championships was a rematch of the schools playing for the Third grade title!  Our Lady of the Lake and St. Pius X made their way to center court to battle it out for first.

Our Lady of the Lake made their third statement of the weekend by taking home the blue with a 29 – 20 victory!

Our Lady of the Lake built a new gymnasium and it seemed to inspire some great basketball this year with the school finding 5 slots out of 12 in the third grade through fifth grade championship games.  In other words, the school was represented in all but one championship game!

The 3rd grade boys defeated Christ the King for the championship this year.

MARCH MADNESS 2014 PORTLAND, OR

St. Pius X  (Cedar Mill, OR) vs Our Lady of the Lake (Lake Oswego, OR).  The third grade bracket this year featured 17 girls teams.  St. Pius X met Our Lady of the Lake in February in a close regular season contest where St. Pius won 24 to 20.

Beyond the variety of small colorful basketball shoes, jerseys tucked in covering half the number on the back, matching socks (nothing like volleyball) the teams fought it out in a very athletic contest for third grade girls.  Excellent coaching was obvious to this spectator!

In the end, Our Lady of the Lake won by a score of 23 – 11
