8th Grade Boys CYO City Championship

St. Anthony vs Valley Catholic

Highlights:

St. Anthony won their fourth consecutive title having lost only 2 games in their entire

CYO Career.  One of those losses was to Valley Catholic who took second place.

Q 1- 14 – 8 St. Anthony

Q 2- 20 – 20 Tied

Q 3- 33 –  22 St. Anthony

Q 4- 48 – 35 St. Anthony

7th Grade Boys CYO City Championship

All Saints vs Holy Redeemer

Highlights

Fun game to watch with several talented players on both teams.  Two well coached groups.  All Saints had the edge today and won handily.

7th Grade Girls CYO city Championship

St. Cecilia vs St. Thomas More

Highlights:

St. Cecilia came out with a slow start trailing by four at the quarter.  A long two pointer put them ahead at the half. St. Thomas More came back with some quick lay ins and led at the end of three quarters by a margin of 6 points.  It was anyone’s game in the fourth quarter.  St. Thomas More played an aggressive fourth quarter and won the contest with an 11 point margin.  (St. Cecilia has been a past champion as has St. Thomas More !)

Quality players on both teams.  Valley Catholic’s # 23 created multiple opportunities for the team and was too difficult to overcome by CTK.  Two teams to watch in coming years as skills & height develop.

A fast paced game between two dedicated teams.  Baskets fell for St. Joseph who never slowed down!

Great game by both teams!

CYO Stars Basketball Championship 6th Grade Boys

Location: Valley Catholic School Valiant Gym

St. Joseph had a strong showing in the first half of the game and St. John the Baptist answered in the third quarter taking a four point lead early in the fourth.  St. Joseph’s # 42 fouled out with 4:15 left in the game which was a factor.  13.1 seconds #33 (Kent) St. Joseph shot a 3 pointer making a 2 point game 43-45. Fouling to get ball back gave St. John the Baptist extra opportunities, finishing the game with a 49-43 score.

The CYO Basketball Tournament schedules are finished and posted.  Athletic Directors and Coaches are pouring over them looking for errors which they report to CYO.  Errors will be corrected on Tuesday February 21, 2012.  Whew…we are ready to begin!  Some 350 teams are entered into the CYO basketball this winter in a tournament that will take five weeks to play including the 50 plus high school basketball teams.  Who will make it to the “Big Dance?”  That is the hope of every team this evening as we begin the road to the final championships!  See you at the games these next several weeks!
